Wage peace

Health and well-being happen when we wage peace. To wage peace with and on behalf of our children is to actively confront violence in its many forms and find constructive ways to address its effects.

The study guides and Web sites in this list provide help in understanding and taking action on peacemaking and violence prevention.

A new UN study on violence against children

The United Nations Secretary-General's Study on Violence against Children has been a global effort to paint a detailed picture of the nature, extent and causes of violence against children, and to propose clear recommendations for action to prevent and respond to it.

This is the first time that an attempt has been made to document the reality of violence against children around the world, and to map out what is being done to stop it. Since 2003, many thousands of people have contributed to the study in consultations and working groups, through questionnaires and in other ways. On October 11, 2006, the UN General Assembly adopted the study's findings and recommendations.

Children and young people were actively involved in every aspect of the study. Over a two-year period, children from all over the world spoke up about their experiences of violence at nine regional consultations.
