Robert and Dalia ended their term of service in December 2002. They are available to speak when their schedule permits. To invite them to speak in your church, see their current contact information on the Mission Speakers page.

Bob and Dalia Baker served on-site in Albania from April 1999 through April 2002. They end their term of service in December 2002 and are available for mission interpretation until then. As people in mission with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Albanian Encouragement Project (AEP), Bob was the administrator of the AEP, an umbrella organization of over 60 mission agencies, including the PC(U.S.A.) that are active in or are concerned about Albania. The members of AEP have about 350 persons resident in Albania. AEP’s purpose is to promote unity and cooperation among the Protestant mission agencies active in Albania. One of its roles is to represent the mission community before the Albanian government. The AEP holds several national meetings each year that address issues relevant to the mission community as well as an annual meeting for all of its members. As administrator, Bob is responsible for the direction and day-to-day operation of the organization.

Dalia served as a communications specialist in Albania, writing about working in Albania-Kosovo for PC(U.S.A.) publications. She also taught in the mission school that services the evangelical community in Albania. Besides these two jobs, Dalia set up a TOEFL (teachers of English as a foreign language) program for an another school and is doing teacher training on ESL (English as a second language), pedagogy and some alternative teaching techniques. She prepared and presented seminars twice a month for the faculty of this school.

Bob and Dalia responded to the call to serve. Dalia writes, "For the past several years, Bob and I would often speak about doing some mission or service work when we retired... After we arrived in Chicago and started attending Fourth Presbyterian Church, John Buchanan’s sermons emphasized the role and duty of service for a Christian. I had been a refugee child after the WW II, so when the Kosovo crisis occurred, it became obvious to me that there was a need to serve now. We retired from our jobs, sold our home and moved to Albania."

Bob has had a rewarding career as a lawyer. He graduated from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, with a BA in political science. Since graduation from Yale Law School in 1968, he has been a lawyer except for a period working in the Finance Department of the State of Ohio. He practiced law from 1968 to 1971 in New York City for the firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and from 1973 to 1999 for the firm Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue. With the latter firm, Bob worked in Cleveland, Ohio; Los Angeles, California; Tokyo, Japan; and Chicago, Illinois. He was a partner of Jones Day from 1977 until his retirement in 1999. His law practice focused on corporate law, international transactions, securities, and government relations.

Dalia received her BS in education from St. John College in Cleveland, Ohio, and her MS in education from Hunter College in New York City. Her work history is in education. She has been a teacher for the past 30 years and taught every age level, every grade in several states. Dalia’s specialty is Braille. She has set up programs for blind infant education, trained teachers, taught ESL, wrote curriculums, taught young blind adults to set up small businesses, and presented papers and seminars at many teacher conventions nationwide.

The Bakers are members of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago, Illinois. Bob is an elder and has been a trustee and chair of the educational outreach committee at Fourth Presbyterian Church. Dalia has been a Sunday school teacher, library volunteer, hospice volunteer, and choir group parent volunteer.

Bob and Dalia are the parents of two adult married daughters, Jennifer and Kristina.
