Duk Yoon Chang
Email: Duk Yoon Chang

Duk Yoon Chang ended her service with PC(USA) in December 2007

Duk was appointed in January 2004 to serve with the Amity Foundation in Shenyang, China, where he provides health care and education in a vocational high school. Besides treating students and enabling them to pursue further studies in health care work, Duk also serves people in the rural communities around Shenyang.

Duk was born in Hwang Hae province in what is now North Korea, where he began his training as a medical doctor at Hae Joo Medical School. After the Korean War he found refuge in South Korea and, after much determined effort, passed the Korean national medical examination in 1964. He did an internship at Inchun Province Hospital in 1965 – 1966. During the early years of his practice he felt something was missing in his life, which led him to attend a church near his clinic.

He had a general practice clinic in Seoul, South Korea from 1967 to 1976 and in an ob/gyn clinic in Seoul from 1976 to 1981. After moving to California in 1981, Duk was the owner of a wholesale meatpacking company (1981 to 1982) and a dry cleaners (1986 to 1998).

Duk has visited North Korea three times since 1990 and was reunited with his family. He visited northeast China for the first time in 2001 and met many people of Korean descent there. After this visit, he felt a keen desire to accompany these people and to help them in any way possible.

Duk is a member of Korean Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church (KGSPC) in Rowland Heights, California, where he was baptized in 1983 and ordained to the office of elder in 1991. He has been very active in his church chair of the cell group department, chair of the mission department, clerk of session, chair of the music department, and chair of the administrative department. KGSPC continues to support Duk in his ministry through the Amity Foundation in China.

Duk is accompanied in China by his wife, Jin Bock Chang.
