| Paul and Linda have worked closely
with the Outreach Foundation and the Independent Presbyterian
Church of Brazil (IPIB) on the Sertão Project, initiated
in January 1999. The sertão is a densely populated
semi-arid region in the interior of northeast Brazil. Currently,
the IPIB has a team of missionaries working in the project in
Patos, São Mamede and Malta in the state of Paraíba;
Cruzeta and Caicó in the state of Rio Grande do Norte;
and Palmeira dos Índios in the state of Alagoas. The project
adheres to the theological principles of the holistic church,
addressing the spiritual and physical needs of the communities.
Paul and Linda visit the project regularly, and many of the PC(USA)
mission teams that Linda coordinates also visit and work with
the Brazilian missionaries serving the church-planting project.
The Fahnestocks were originally appointed and commissioned by
the PC(USA) in 1995 to serve in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. They shared
the gospel with the Uzbek people as they helped establish an eye
hospital in Tashkent, the capital city. Upon their return to the
United States in 1996, the Fahnestocks were missionaries-in-residence
at the Presbyterian church center in Louisville, Kentucky. Paul
worked in the Office of International Evangelism, and Linda worked
on a special mission-funding project in the Worldwide Ministries
Division.

a master’s of divinity degree with an emphasis in cross-cultural

and was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament in the
PC(USA). He is a minister member of the Presbytery of Southern
Kansas.
