Russellville, IN 46175

Ended ended her term of service in April 2002. She is available
to speak when her schedule permits. To invite her to speak see
her current contact information on the Mission
Speakers page.

Nancy McGaughey serves with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
and the United Mission to Nepal (UMN) as a health consultant at
the Karnali Technical School (KTS) near Jumla, Nepal. Her primary
responsibilities are community development in the village of Jumla
(altitude 10,000 feet), teaching health programs at KTS (an hour's
walk from Jumla at 8,200 feet), coordinating health activities
in the district, and promoting safe motherhood and maternal-child
care in the area.
Jumla is located in an isolated area of northwest Nepal. It is
a five-day walk to the nearest road. Throughout most of its history
Nepal itself has been isolated and largely inaccessible. It is
a small country locked between India and China with eight of the
ten tallest mountains in the world. Nepal is the world's only
Hindu kingdom and Christian mission work is difficult. Projects
are largely limited to medical and developmental work. Open evangelism
has been strictly forbidden. The UMN began in 1954 with the establishment
of medical work. It now includes more than 400 people sent by
a number of Christian supporting agencies around the world.
