Ongoing hurricane response

Almost three years later, many survivors are still homeless from the effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. This new video shows the hope offered to families as they are able to return home with the help of Project Homecoming. Project Homecoming, a joint ministry of the Presbytery of South Louisiana and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, has been described as "a PC(USA) focus on helping people return home; not only as assistance in rebuilding houses, but as a witness to the love of Christ, whose healing power brings all who are touched 'home' to a place of joy, love, and peace in life.”
Since its official opening a little more than a year ago (April 2007), Project Homecoming has:
- Housed more than 1,800 volunteers
- Logged more than 340,000 volunteer hours
- Gutted more than 990 homes
- Completed more than 90 homes
- Continued work on more than 20 homes
The Project Homecoming video is available as part of Hurricane Katrina Two Years Later: connecting people, rebuilding lives. This PDA DVD lifts up two years of hurricane response by examining the impact of Presbyterian work, detailing a day in the life of a Presbyterian work team, providing a promotional music video and offering interviews with homeowners, volunteers, clergy and staff who are all part of a collective effort for long-term recovery along the Gulf Coast.
