How Do We Nurture Our Young Adult Peacemakers?

A gathering of 10 young adults took place on October 18-20, 2002 in Louisville, Ky. to brainstorm how the Peacemaking Program can nurture and equip young adults to continue working for peace and justice. The following three-fold plan for implementing a young adult network was created:

  1. Leader/Leadership Development - This network should be led by a core group of young adults. The network is the space in which young adults can share openly about their needs and desires. They will manage the direction of the network.

  2. Reflection - Young adults are seeking spiritual nurturing in addition to the doing of peacemaking. The Peacemaking Program needs to provide avenues, activities, and resources that can answer the question: How does one's faith relate to their desires to work for peace and justice?

  3. Action - These are "how-to-steps" that will empower young adults to act and how to do that work within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). They can be connected with different partners in the social justice arena of the Presbyterian Church.

This three-fold plan will be extremely helpful in ministering to young adults through the Peacemaking Program.
