The Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA) is a ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). While PHEWA serves the entire church, it also is a non-profit 501(c)3 membership organization. Gifts to PHEWA are tax exempt and help to extend the work of our ministries.

There are a several ways to contribute. You can become a member and join one, two or all of our networks. You can send a check, directing your gift to PHEWA or to any of its networks. Make your check payable to PHEWA indicating a network if desired. Gifts in the form of a check can be sent to:

The PC(USA) has a long history of addressing violence and a strong policy relating to all forms of domestic violence. Funds will be used to provide resources and training to congregations and middle governing bodies, seminaries and conferences. This work is carried out by Presbyterians Against Domestic Violence Network (PADVN).

Consultants for Disability Concerns

Many persons with disabilities are unchurched because congregations have not always known how to incorporate them into the full life of a congregation. Four consultants in the areas of hearing, visual, mobility and developmental disabilities work to help congregations as they strive to become places where all can worship and work. These consultants are persons who through personal and/or professional life experience consult via phone and email to address practical and pastoral issues. This is a program supported by the PC(USA) Office of the Executive Director, General Assembly Council and managed by Social Welfare Ministries, Social Justice Program Area.

Presbyterian AIDS Network (PAN)

PAN encourages the Church to live out Jesus' ministry of love and justice to those persons and families who have been infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Members of PAN are grassroots volunteers who produce resources and partner with PC(USA) Health Ministries USA and International Health Ministries to bring awareness to and support of ministries involved in HIV/AIDS work. PAN is one of the 10 networks of PHEWA.

Presbyterian Association for Community Transformation (PACT)

PACT is a network of community-based ministries of compassion and justice, worship and witness. PACT advocates wholeness and provides spiritual and practical resources for engaging the prophetic ministry of transformation of their communities. Resources and consultations to strengthen these ministries are provided by volunteers working in the field. PACT is one of the 10 networks of PHEWA.

Presbyterian Association of Specialized Pastoral Ministries (PASPM)

PASPM is the Presbyterian professional organization of persons involved in chaplaincies, pastoral counseling and other specialized ministries. They represent the PC(USA) at national professional organizations and work to ensure that the church recognizes their ministries. PASPM seeks to be a resource to Presbytery Committees on Ministry as they ordain and support persons in these fields of ministry. PASPM is one of the 10 networks of PHEWA.

PCAN strives to extend the Baptismal embrace by lifting up the needs of children in the church, the community, nation and world. Members of PCAN are grassroots volunteers who produce materials and resources for congregations. They were responsible for the successful Year of the Child and look forward to partnering with other Presbyterian entities in the Decade of the Child. PCAN is one of the 10 networks of PHEWA.

PHEWA works to answer the question posed in Micah 6:8: “What does the Lord require of us …” The association identifies, trains, networks and nurtures grassroots leaders across the denomination who are involved in carrying out justice ministries that emerge from GA actions.

PHN advocates for health, healing and wholeness ministries at the congregational, presbytery and synod levels of the denomination. The Presbyterian Parish Nurse Ministry is part of this ministry, training parish nurses and consulting with Presbyterian entities that wish to set up ministries of healing. PHN is one of the 10 networks of PHEWA.

PSMIN advocates in the church and greater community with and for those who have been touched by mental illness. Members of PSMIN are grassroots volunteers who seek equity, justice, human dignity and full acceptance into the life of the church. PSMIN is one of the 10 networks of PHEWA.

PARO supports the full range of reproductive options that ensure that every child is loved and wanted. Members of PARO are grassroots volunteers committed to ensuring that the policy of the PC(USA) is articulated, understood, and preserved for future generations. PARO is one of the 10 networks of PHEWA.

PAA assists Presbyterians as they minister in an increasingly addictive society to restore people to God's promise of wholeness. PAA is a voice for recovery and a resource to the PC(USA). Members of PAA are grassroots volunteers who provide resources to help identify, prevent, and increase awareness of alcoholism and other addictions and their related effects on families. PAA is one of the 10 networks of PHEWA.
